The Project
The Grass Lake Community Wellness Initiative has constructed a large Events Park Pavilion which is located in the Village Community Events Park on Brown St. The Events Park Pavilion serves as a home for the local Farmers Market, a community pavilion, shelter and bandstand all in one! Christened during the 2017 Grass Lake Traffic Jam'in, the building features a smaller outcrop on the south side of the building that will serve as a stage for many of Grass Lake’s special events like the Farmers Market, Music in the Park, Traffic Jam’In and Winterfest.
In its second phase of construction storage space was added in 2019 and it is anticipated that the pavilion will eventually feature bathrooms in 2020. Future site amenities will include a gaga ball pit, a seasonal ice rink, and a shuffle board court.
Funding for this project was provided through a joint partnership with the Grass Lake Wellness Initiative, the Grass Lake Village DDA, and the 5 Healthy Towns Foundation.
The Impact
The pavilion is available for Village sanctioned or approved special events and private rentals, as well as being open to the public during general park hours. The pavilion is owned and administered by the Village of Grass Lake and maintained by the Village DPW Department.
Because of its central location within the historic downtown Village limits, close proximity to both the Village and Township municipal offices, and beginning at the headway of the walking trail for the Township recreational park, the new Events Park Pavilion will be a heavily used resource by Grass Lake residents and visitors all year around. The new 3200 square foot pavilion will be available for:
- Space for at least 24 Farmers Market Booths
- Covered Outdoor Craft Markets
- Outdoor Concerts
- Park-wide Lawn Events
- Outdoor Weddings
- Open Houses
- Reunions
- Family Picnics
- Civic and Church Functions
